Career Choice & Guide for Students
SELECTION OF SCHOOL SUBJECTS FOR CAREER DEVELOPMENT
PREAMBLE
The Federal Republic of Nigeria (2004) directed that, every student shall take all the six (6) labeledcore subjects and a minimum of one and a maximum of two (2) from the list of elective subjects and minimum of seven (7) and maximum of eight (8) subjects. However,FRN (2013) is indicated that, each student is to take the four (4) compulsory cross – cutting subjects. Forthe trade/entrepreneurship subject, each student is expected to select one (1) trade/entrepreneurshipsubject from the list of 34 trade/entrepreneurship subjects. Each student may then choose two (2), three(3), four (4), or five (5) subjects from each of their preferred Four Fields of Studies depending on theirpotential, interest and capability such that the minimum number of subjects is eight (8) while themaximum number of subjects is nine (9).New Senior Secondary School Curriculum in Nigeria

The New Senior Secondary Education Curriculum Structure therefore comprises
● A group of 4 compulsory, cross-cutting core subjects that must be offered by all students.● Four fields of study
● A group of 35 trade/entrepreneurship subjects.
● Elective subjects.
It is to be noted that a field of study is a group of subjects representing a student’s potential area of specialization.
Based on the new curriculum structure:
● Students are to offer all the four (4) compulsory cross-cutting core subjects, namely English Language, General Mathematics, Civic Education and Trade/Entrepreneurship Studies. Note that students are to select One (1) Trade/Entrepreneurship subject from the list of 34 Trade/Entrepreneurship subjects.● Students may then choose two (2), three (3), four (4), or five (5) subjects from each of their preferred four fields of study depending on their potential, interest and capability.
We provide educational resources/materials, curriculum guide, syllabus, scheme of work, lesson note & plan, waec, jamb, O-level & advance level GCE lessons/tutorial classes, on various topics, subjects, career, disciplines & department etc. for all the Class of Learners
It is important to further note that
● If students choose two (2) subjects, they can select two (2) or three (3) subjects from any other fields of studies or Trade/Entrepreneurship subjects to make a minimum of eight (8) or maximum of nine (9) subjects;● If students choose three (3) subjects they can select one (1) or two (2) subjects from any other fields of studies or Trade/Entrepreneurship subjects to make a minimum of eight (8) or a maximum of nine (9) subjects;
● If students choose four (4) subjects they have already selected the minimum of eight (8) subjects and can select one (1) more subject from any other field of study or Trade/Entrepreneurship subjects to make a maximum of nine (9) subjects; and
● If students choose five (5) subjects they have already selected a maximum of nine subjects.
● In all, students are to take a minimum of eight (8) subjects or a maximum of nine (9) subjects at the Senior Secondary school level.
In summary
● Choice of subjects leads to choice of career● The choice of subject is made at the beginning of SSS1
● School subjects are classified into four areas: Science and Maths, Humanities, Business Studiesand Technology.
● A student is to offer minimum of eight and maximum of nine subjects.
● The four (4) compulsory subjects are basic, general and important.
● A student is to choose between Two and Five subjects in the field of study (core)
● He/She may choose the rest to make up nine (9) subjects in any of the other field of studies.
