Rationale:

Drug abuse is rising dramatically around the country and no one seems to know how to stem the tide. Over the past ten years, the percentage of employees testing positive for drug use has reached an all-time high, with heroin use and amphetamine use skyrocketing over this period. These trends have carried over into all parts of society, from the boardroom to the classroom, impacting both working professionals and students alike. Adults are role models for children and their views on alcohol, tobacco, and drugs can strongly affect how children think about them. So it is important to make talking about drugs a part of the general health and safety conversations. Drug education helps children and young people understand that all drugs, legal and illegal, have the potential to cause harm, and that the drug experience is because of many factors including the person, the drug and the environment.
